Common complaints
01
Plantar fascia overload (plantar fasciitis)
A stabbing pain at the inner side of the heel, sharpest with the first steps out of bed in the morning and easing after a few minutes of walking.
The plantar fascia spans the arch of the foot and is stretched with every step. With long hours standing or walking, a sudden increase in running volume, a stiff calf, or flat and worn-out shoes, its attachment on the heel bone takes repeated traction and becomes irritated.
02
Plantar muscle pain
A spreading, burning or cramping pain through the middle of the sole and at the base of the toes, coming on after long standing or walking, together with a tired, collapsing feeling in the arch.
The small muscles of the sole support the arch and adjust the foot to the ground. In stiff-soled shoes and on hard surfaces they do very little work and weaken; when load does reach them — a long walk, a day spent barefoot — they fatigue quickly and turn painful.
How to prevent it
- Strengthening the small muscles of the foot: barefoot drills, toe grips, arch lifts.
- Stretching the calf and the Achilles regularly — a stiff calf loads the sole as well.
- Wearing shoes that suit the activity and are not worn out.
- In standing work, shifting weight regularly and taking short movement breaks.
This is exactly what prevention training is built on — if you would rather head off a recurring complaint, take a look at the service. Prevention training
This page is information, not a diagnosis. What is actually causing your complaint can only be established during an in-person assessment. If a complaint persists, is severe, or is getting worse, the first step is a medical examination, not therapy.
